COMMUNITY CAREGIVING

Community Caregiving is a social adult day program for persons with memory loss.
Activity groups meet Monday through Friday, 10:00AM-3:00PM, in either English or in Spanish.
Daily activities include arts & crafts, music therapy, exercise, Yoga and relaxation, reality orientation, dance, discussion groups, and bingo.
These activities give participants the opportunity to socialize with others and increase their sense of independence in a safe, supervised setting.
Day trips to the Botanical Gardens, Riverbank State Park and City Island, as well as special events such as fashion shows, and birthday and holiday parties, provide additional rewarding experiences for program members.
Hot, nutritious lunch and snacks are provided, and transportation can be arranged for residents of Washington Heights, Inwood, and West Harlem, north of 135th Street. Vans are able to accommodate wheel chair bound participants.
For caregivers, we offer support groups in both English and Spanish, and casework assistance Monday through Friday to assist families with services and entitlements such as home care.
Background
Community Caregiving began in 1986 as a project of the Washington Heights & Inwood Council on Aging and Brookdale Center on Aging of Hunter College. The program is currently funded through public and private monies, including a fee for service based on a sliding scale.
