Writing from Memory

The Riverstone Memory Club Writing Group

At Riverstone, members of the Memory Club write,
and memories stream onto their pages --

A special gift, a favorite pet

Walking barefoot

A favorite meal

A memorable scent

The rain, a hug, waiting

A story about what really matters

Using a method that creates a safe and supportive environment for self-expression, writers compose their memories, then read them aloud to each other.
We will post their works on this page --
Check back from time to time to see
what new words of wisdom they are sharing with us!

Cándido

Writing about writing:

We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed. Words considered, reconsidered.  So many words lost in the darkness of ignorance, hidden in the jungle of indifference or lack of care.

Irma

Writing about insects:
Bugs are not my favorite people, although I have learned to tolerate them. I have no choice.
As a child in Puerto Rico, I remember that we had mosquitoes that seemed to like sleeping with us...
As an adult in New York City, I have met some new admirers. Roaches!

Héctor

Writing about childhood home:
...there was always this quietness, interrupted only by the sounds of the animals — birds, chickens, hogs, horses, insects and the moo of the cows, and the barking of dogs, and the meow of cats, and pigeons —
sometimes inside the house...

Joe

Writing about favorite meal:
I would take my fork and dig right into my aunt's meatloaf. I did "hmmm hmmm" sounds, telling my aunt she was the best cook in the whole wide world.
She hugged me... and said "Joe! I made two of them because I knew that you were going to ask for seconds!"
